WHO'S THE ACTUAL PHANTOM MENACE?
I'm sorry to have put this one in the latest news section as this is not really news, it's rather some debated topics on Characters in TPM. We argued on two things actually, Darth Sidous might be a different person and not Senator Palpatine after all and the other was who is the phantom menace? Is Darth Maul, Darth Sidious aka Senator or Anakin Skywalker? My clever friend(heh heh) from the net say that Anakin aka Darth Vader is the true Phantom Menace, and Obi1 will definitely found out in the next prequels! ---> for precaution, a lot of this kind of rumours and nonsense theories are spreaded like wild fire around the net, I would put up only the reliable ones, as we all know Lucas himself still in the process of making the script of episode 2, but hell, maybe he'll pick some of our ideas, huh?

Another Amazing Record, topped the $200mil mark in less than 2 weeks. Yep, this time Star Wars maintain the same 3 days weekend grossing with $64.3 mil make it the first movie ever to reached $200mil records in two weeks. Independence Day passed the $200 mark in 3 weeks, so the record is officially beaten! The preliminary figures showed it has reached an estimation of $205 million. So, watch up 'Titanic'!

PIRACY VCD and VIDEOS in ASIA!
According to the Wall Street Journal, video-disk copies of the film have turned up on the streets of Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta in what the paper calls "the quickest rollout in piracy history." The paper reports that these discs are already spreading out into other parts of Asia as well as Europe, South Africa and Latin America.
From what I see, the copies are watchable though it doesn't give you a full satisfaction.I did manage to but one. Don't get me wrong here, I'll definitely get the original copy when it comes out! The problem with it is, we can actually obtain a pirated VCD at a cost of RM 7 (about $2) and the original VCD with RM 39.90 (about $13), so people definitely will go for RM 7, but true fans won't mind spending RM40 for full satisfaction! I still haven't watch the VCD copy, I'd prefer for my first time, to be in a comfortable system surround THX cinema, that'll be as early as 3rd June 99.

Episode I Cutscenes
Several readers have wrote in questioning the appearance of some scenes in mass media publications that were not included in the film. We're going to do a quick rundown of some of the scenes that have been brought up through various emails.
Scene 1 - Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon in the Naboo Swamp - According to the Illustrated Screenplay and the novel, Obi-Wan's lightsaber burnt out, the cut scene would have had Qui-Gon lecturing his padawan on lightsaber disciplines.
Scene 2 - Obi-Wan and Darth Maul fighting on Tatooine. This scene never really happened, from what I read in the book, and what was in the screenplay this never existed. The image was created for use by Vanity Fair. Obi-Wan was never meant to combat Maul on Tatooine.
never really happen! maybe in Ep2???!?
So, Will Maul be back as a clone in the second part of the prequels trilogy? And will Qui be back as a spirit(hologram)? more news on this click here!

Film been stolen (should we put this as an great achievement records?)
You knew it was just a matter of time before this happened considering all the mania last week surrounding the release of Star Wars: Episode One – The Phantom Menace. Now, according to central Wisconsin’s Leader-Telegram newspaper and the AP, and in spite of security that seemed to be above and beyond anything seen before, a complete film print of The Phantom Menace has been lifted from the State Theater in Menomonie, WI. It’s reported that the film was stolen right of the theater’s project after the final show on Friday night, and before the manager returned to begin showing the film on Saturday afternoon. Police and the theater believe the job had to be to have been done by more than one person because the film, which originally took up five cans, had been edited together on the projector. The final print is said to weigh over 40 pounds. Not a whole lot, really, but pretty cumbersome.Theater owner Nick LeGros told the paper, "We lost the Saturday matinee and evening show, but we had another film flown in from Chicago, so we were back on for the Sunday matinee. In the 23 years I've been doing this, this is the first time I've had a film stolen." This stolen film can be converted to VCD and videocassetes, here we go again the piracy!

However, Movies-On-Video.com reports that Episode One will be on store shelves by November.

Finally, Weekend Box Office reviews, SW passed the $100 mil figure but Failed in 3 day Weekend grossings.

So, finally, after its first week of opening, Star Wars managed to gross up to $105.7 million which surpassed the record before held by Steven Spielberg Jurassic Park. Bad news is, It's the kind of disappointment most studio executives would fall on their light sabers for: The ``Star Wars'' prequel failed to beat the opening-weekend record set by ``The Lost World: Jurassic Park,'' $72.1, Star Wars only managed to get $64.8 in its first 3 days. I expected it to be better as say reached $150 mil, but this didn't happen due to a few reasons.

STAR WARS' A SUCCESS: Other records made by Star Wars Episode 1
Episode I has become the fastest film to ever reach $100M in domestic receipts (five full days) and set new opening-day and single-day records with its $28.5M haul on Wednesday.

4 reasons WHY IT FAILED TO BEAT $72.1 record?
But the record that many box office observers were certain would fall was the $72.1M in sales that The Lost World generated over the Friday-to-Sunday portion of its Memorial Day weekend holiday opening in 1997. That milestone remained intact as the new Star Wars prequel came in 10% below the ferocious bite of the dinosequel. However, The Lost World opened over a holiday time when moviegoers had more available time to entertain themselves plus its Sunday was followed by a day off so it played more like a Saturday when sales are strong throughout the day and night. Plus The Phantom Menace opened on a Wednesday thereby pushing sales from die hard fans out of the weekend and into the earlier midweek period. Also with all the hype in recent weeks on how the movie would be sold out during its opening weekend, many casual fans of the film may have stayed away to avoid the anticipated crowds. Furthermore, the Spielberg sequel benefited from roughly 300 more theaters and 600 more total screens than The Phantom Menace.

THE FULL FIGURES for its first week
Fox's final daily grosses for the opening five-day weekend of Star Wars Episode I are as follows :
Wednesday - $28,542,349;
Thursday - $12,307,918;
Friday - $18,467,513;
Saturday - $24,414,123;
Sunday - $21,929,334.
The Friday-to-Sunday final weekend gross came in at $64,810,970 while the complete five-day haul was
$105,661,237. Marvellous, it succeeded !

$7.5 Million in mere 6 Hours!
First of all, I won't give my reviews, not until the 3rd of June! Good news is other prequels' starwars site have a very positive review of Episode I. Also, Episode I made around $7.5 Million in its first 6 hours.If you ask me, If the grossing continue constantly for one week, we shall have $214.0 Mil for its first week of opening, excluding the sneak preview shows, and ofcourse we cannot based on my based on maths calculation figures as cinema won't be opened 24 hours a day,eh? So, we can cut the figures into half and have $107 Mil, the target was $115 Mil. Amazing isn't it? We shall know in another 4 days time after the final figures came out.

Special contribution to best buddy Spielberg?
This something good to watch out, During the Senate scene, when the Queen calls for the vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum, the camera does several quick jump cuts to various delegates reacting in various ways (positive or negative for the vote). at one point, a group of delegates is shown reacting in the foreground, if you look below them and to your left (their right) you will be looking down into the seating area of a delegation of 3... E.T.'s. I'll have more news on this. Me, myself haven't watch the movie.
check this one out!

Coppola Defends Lucas
Francis Ford Coppola is one of George Lucas’ oldest buddies. While talking to the AP, the director-writer-producer responded to questions about how Lucas might be taking the mixed reviews Phantom Menace has been getting. Coppola responded, "George worked very hard on it. I know he's gotten some bad reviews, but he didn't slough it off or anything. Nonetheless, it's going to be an extraordinary success. It's all-out Star Wars. I don't think people really will be disappointed."
